A composite material comprising vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) on a substrate, wherein the composite material comprises additional disordered carbon deposited on the outer surface of the nanotubes. The additional carbon is not amorphous, but includes graphitic regions. The composite material can be prepared on a metal substrate by a CVD method at atmospheric pressure in the presence of a catalyst. The composites can be used as electrodes in electronic and electrotechnical devices such as supercapacitors. |
