abstract | In one embodiment, a method of making a melt polycarbonate comprises melt polymerizing a bisphenol and diphenyl carbonate in a polymerization unit to form phenol and a melt polycarbonate; removing an overhead stream comprising gas phase phenol from the polymerization unit; combining the overhead stream with a gas stream comprising a vapor phase solvent to form a combined gas stream; wherein the combined gas stream has a freezing point less than the triple point of phenol at less than 3 millibar absolute; and condensing the combined gas stream in a condenser to form a condensed stream comprising liquid phase phenol and solvent. |
