Amphoteric graft copolymers comprising a polypropylene backbone and mixed small molecule side chains based on organofunctional silanes (PP-g-XSiOA) in the presence of auxiliary reagents such as bifunctional diacrylate metal salt monomers, wherein "X" is an organic group or organic functional group, and "A" is a metal, inorganic oxide, inorganic hydroxide, or any other inorganic material. X may be derived from a compound selected from the group consisting of epoxy, amino, acrylate, methacryloxy and vinyl; and A selected from: silicon (Si), aluminum (Al), iron (Fe), titanium (Ti), silver (Ag), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni), calcium (Ca), copper (Cu), tin (Sn), their oxides, their hydroxides, and mixtures thereof. These copolymers are suitable for the formation of medical devices and/or as additives to base polymeric formulations for medical devices to improve laser marking, antimicrobial properties, adhesive-free bond strength, coatability and colorability. |
