abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a method of simply coloring the surface of a gel-like food. It has been found that gelation can be achieved by allowing a divalent or higher metal ion to exist on the surface of a gel-like food, and applying an aqueous solution containing a gelling agent that reacts with a pigment and a bivalent or higher metal ion to gel. The surface of the food-like food is beautifully colored, thereby completing the present invention. In order to make the metal ions of divalent or more exist on the surface of the gel-like food, there are a method of kneading a component that is a metal ion of divalent or more in the gel-like food itself, and a method of incorporating a metal ion of divalent or more into the gel-like food itself.
