titleOfInvention | Process for preparing cyclic urea adducts of ethyleneamine compounds |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for preparing a cyclic urea adduct of an ethyleneamine compound, wherein the ethyleneamine compound is selected from the group consisting of ethyleneamine and hydroxyethylethyleneamine and comprises at least one- NH-CH2-CH2-NH- moiety and at least two ethylene moieties, wherein the ethyleneamine compound is combined with CO2 in a compound selected from the group consisting of ethylenediamine (EDA), monoethanolamine (MEA) and mixtures thereof The reaction is carried out in the presence of an auxiliary compound in a molar ratio of auxiliary compound to amine compound of at least 0.02:1. It has been found that the presence of an auxiliary compound selected from the group consisting of ethylenediamine (EDA), monoethanolamine (MEA) and mixtures thereof results in a significant increase in the reaction rate compared to processes in which the auxiliary compound is absent. |
