abstract The invention provides a brominated chlorinated polybutadiene/styrene flame retardant, wherein-1% of the thermal weight loss temperature is 237-243 ℃, and-5% of the thermal weight loss temperature is 258-261 ℃; the invention also provides a preparation method and application of the flame retardant. The brominated chlorinated polybutadiene/styrene flame retardant prepared by the invention uses SBS halogenated by bromine and chlorine, so that the flame retardant prepared by the invention has lower cost compared with a brominated flame retardant; the brominated chlorinated polybutadiene/styrene flame retardant prepared by the invention has high thermal stability, and can be used as a substitute of HBCD (high-density polyethylene) to be applied to polystyrene foam materials; the yield of the brominated chlorinated polybutadiene/styrene flame retardant prepared by the invention is 96.4-98.0%; the preparation process is a green synthesis process, the waste liquid amount is small, and the reaction speed is high.
