An acidic water-based process was developed for the synthesis of anionic lignin copolymers with tunable MW, thermal stability, and water solubility. The anionic lignin copolymers described herein have: a molecular weight of 5,000 g/mol to 7.4× 10 5 g/mol; and a charge density of -1 meq/g to -7.2 meq/g. The anionic lignin copolymers described herein with molecular weights ranging from 000 to 50,000 g/mol can be used as negatively charged molecules or particles in many process or wastewater streams (eg concrete admixtures, gypsum slurries, textile dyes) dispersants, and such copolymers with molecular weights ranging from 90,000 to 740,000 g/mol can be used in many process and wastewater streams, including industrial and municipal systems, as well as in the textile dye industry, pulp and paper industry, mining It is used as a flocculant for positively charged molecules or particles in sludge dewatering in the petroleum industry. |
