The equipment includes: a light-tight platform to support the gemstone to be evaluated; one or more light sources to provide uniform UV and non-UV illumination; an image capture assembly; and a telecentric lens positioned to direct fluorescent light from the illuminated gemstone to The image is provided to the image capture component. Methods based on fluorescence analysis of images collected using this device are also provided.
