abstract The present invention provides a heat-sealable water-based coating composition suitable for coating substrates (for packaging of products containing grease, oil, water, etc.). The coating composition contains an acrylic polymer or copolymer emulsion and a molten wax. The substrate can form a container, such as a cup. The coating provides a barrier against penetration by, for example, grease, oil, water, and other liquids. Additionally, the coating composition is compostable.
