A welded assembly and a reactive metallurgical welding method are disclosed. The assembly includes first and second metal workpieces attached together by at least two overlapping weld joints. The overlapping weld joints are reactive metallurgical joining (RMJ) weld joints, and each overlapping weld joint overlaps another overlapping weld by 10-75%. The method of welding includes providing a reactive material between and in contact with first and second workpieces. In the first position, the workpiece and reactive material are squeezed together, heated and held between the first and second tools to form a first RMJ weld joint between the workpieces. Then, in the second position, the workpieces are pressed together, heated, and held between the tools to form a second RMJ weld joint that overlaps the first RMJ weld joint. |
