Medication infusion components and systems |
abstract |
The present invention relates to systems and components for the infusion of drugs such as insulin. In general, the present invention applies to systems and components used in the present invention to infuse drugs such as insulin. The system components typically include a cannula suitable for subcutaneous insertion into a diabetic patient. The system also includes a fluid conduit adapted to deliver the insulin solution from the drug reservoir to the infusion site, and a reservoir in operative contact with the fluid conduit. The depot contains selected materials including a deficient site reducing agent (such as heparin) that inhibits inflammation at the infusion site and encapsulation of the cannula at the infusion site. A site loss reducing agent is not premixed with the insulin, but is adapted to contact the insulin solution in the reservoir as the insulin solution flows from the drug reservoir to the infusion site. |
