abstract |
An illumination device for reducing speckle effects in light reflected by an illumination target (120) comprises a laser (150); a linear diffuser (157) in an optical path between the illumination target and the laser, to diffuse collimated laser light (154) in a planar diffuse light fan (158, 159) that spreads across at least a portion of the illumination target in one dimension; and a beam deflector (153) for directing incident light at all The collimated laser light on the beam deflector scans across different positions on the linear diffuser during the exposure time during which the diffused light illuminates the illumination target. The different locations span the distance across the linear diffuser that provides sufficient light at the image sensor (164) in light reflected from the intersection of the planar light fan and the illumination target of uncorrelated speckle patterns to add incoherently when the image sensor is imaged during the exposure time. |
