| abstract | A method for administering to a patient in need thereof a medicament suitable for treating migraine or cluster headache comprises contacting a mounting surface of a fluid delivery device having the medicament with at least a portion of the patient's skin. The flow rate of the drug from the fluid delivery device is adjusted such that the drug is delivered to the patient for at least a predetermined period of time. The fluid delivery device includes a controller assembly having a body member defining a shaft and a plunger member slidably connected to the body member. The plunger is positionable between a first position where the plunger is closest to the body member and a second position where the plunger member is furthest from the body member. A biasing assembly is positioned between the body member and the plunger member. The biasing assembly is configured to apply a two-step curved force to the plunger member. Also disclosed are methods for administering a drug to a patient in need thereof such that Cmax , Tmax, and AUC are within predetermined therapeutically effective values. Such an approach is useful in the treatment of migraine or cluster headaches with sumatriptan or other drugs. |
