titleOfInvention Hybrid orthodontic arch wire
abstract A hybrid orthodontic archwire design is disclosed. Hybrid archwires may have bracket-wire segments and interdental archwire segments, where each segment is variable in cross-sectional shape, size, and/or material properties. The bracket-archwire section can be configured to facilitate torque control and can have a rectangular cross-section. The interdental archwire segments may be configured to bend to force-promoted bending and may have a circular cross-section. Each archwire segment can be straight or curved into any shape. A hybrid archwire can have a sliding section and a non-sliding section. The non-sliding section may have an insertion connector configured to prevent sliding of the archwire relative to the orthodontic bracket and/or may have a cross-sectional shape, size or coating that inhibits sliding relative to the sliding section. The sliding section may have a linear archwire section. A hybrid archwire can have a distal or posterior non-sliding section and an intermediate anterior or medial section.
