The present invention relates to a transparent composite oxide sintered body, a method for producing the same, and a magneto-optical device. A transparent composite oxide sintered body is produced by sintering the molded body in an inert atmosphere or in a vacuum and subjecting the sintered molded body to HIP treatment, provided that the molded body is composed of a rare earth oxide based on: (Tb x Y 1-x ) 2 O 3 The raw powder is molded, where 0.4≤x≤0.6, and when heated from room temperature at a heating rate of 15°C/min in air, the molded body exhibits at least y% weight gain due to oxidation reactions, y is given by the formula: y=2x+0.3 is determined. Since the valence state of Tb ions is controlled, the sintered body has a long emission lifetime. |
