Described herein are recombinant yeast cells expressing xylulokinase (XK), which are suitable for pentose sugar fermentation. Recombinant yeast cells having a higher tolerance to formic acid and/or acetic acid and suitable for pentose sugar fermentation are also described. Expression of enolase, phosphofructokinase beta subunit, 6-phosphofructose-2-kinase, glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, phosphoglycerate mutase and/or triose phosphate isomerase is also described, and Recombinant yeast cells suitable for pentose sugar fermentation. Also described are recombinant yeast cells expressing phosphoglucomutase and/or phosphoribosyl mutase, which are suitable for pentose sugar fermentation. Methods and related materials for using or producing such recombinant yeast cells are further described. |
