abstract One method of applying a gas impermeable coating includes forming a suspension of a polymer electrolyte complex. A suspension of polymer electrolyte complex is applied to a substrate. A substrate having a polymer electrolyte composite applied thereto is treated. The treatment reduces the salt content of the polymer electrolyte composite. The treatment results in the formation of a gas impermeable coating on the substrate.
