Single-insertion multiple-sample biopsy device |
abstract |
The present application relates to a biopsy device that includes a biopsy probe assembly releasably attached to a driver assembly. The biopsy probe assembly has a coaxially arranged vacuum cannula and stylet cannula. The vacuum cannula has a flared portion extending distally from the elongated portion. The stylet cannula is movable between a first extended position and a first retracted position. The stylet cannula has a distal portion with a sample groove and a protruding member proximally in the lumen of the stylet cannula along a portion of the longitudinal length of the sample groove A lateral extension wherein the projecting member is received within the flared portion of the vacuum cannula when the stylet cannula is in the first retracted position. The biopsy device may also include a controller circuit having a virtual energy reservoir and the controller circuit executing programmed instructions to control current flow to the motor when engaging dense tissue. |
