A way to wet surfaces |
abstract |
The present invention relates to the generation of nanopores in atomically thin films by ultrashort electrical pulses. In one method of forming nanopores, two opposing surfaces of a membrane are exposed to a conductive liquid environment. Through the liquid environment, a nanopore nucleation voltage pulse with a first nucleation pulse amplitude and duration is applied between the two membrane surfaces. After application of the nanopore nucleation voltage pulse, the conductance of the membrane is measured and compared to a first predetermined conductance. Then, if the measured conductance is not greater than the first predetermined conductance, at least one additional nanopore nucleation voltage pulse is applied between the two membrane surfaces through the liquid environment. |
