Recovery of gold and/or silver from scrap |
abstract |
The recovery of gold and/or silver from scrap is disclosed, from which gold and silver are selectively recovered to separate the gold and silver from non-silver and non-gold materials in the scrap. In some cases, acid mixtures are used to recover gold and silver from scrap. The mixture contains nitric acid and at least one supplementary acid such as sulfuric or phosphoric acid. The amount of nitric acid in the mixture is small compared to the amount of sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid in the mixture. The recovery of gold and silver using the acid mixture is improved by transferring an electrical current between the electrodes and the gold and silver of the scrap. Silver is recovered from certain types of scrap using acid mixtures, such as scrap containing metallic silver and chromium oxide and scrap containing metallic silver and metallic tungsten. |
