abstract Polymers, methods for making polymers and uses of the polymers are disclosed. The polymer is a polyaryletherketone, and the process includes making the bisphenol in an aromatic sulfone solvent in a reaction mixture comprising sodium carbonate and potassium carbonate at a reaction temperature raised to a temperature of 290°C to 320°C. Nucleophilic polycondensation with an organic dihalide compound is followed by addition of a salt to the reaction mixture, wherein the molar ratio of the salt to potassium carbonate is from 6.0 to 10.0. Additional organic dihalide compound is added to the reaction mixture in a molar ratio of additional organic dihalide compound to bisphenol of 0.009 to 0.035. The resulting reaction mixture was maintained at a temperature of 290°C to 320°C for 20 minutes to 180 minutes, then the resulting reaction mixture was cooled and the PAEK was recovered.
