The exhaust gas purifying catalyst of the present invention has the catalyst layer 40 formed inside the partition walls 16 of the wall flow structure substrate 10, and the catalyst layer 40 includes the upstream side catalyst layer 20 and the downstream side catalyst layer 30. The upstream-side catalyst layer 20 contains Rh and Ce-containing oxide, and the downstream-side catalyst layer 30 contains Pd and Ce-containing oxide.
