abstract A multistage acoustophoretic device for continuously separating a second fluid or particle from a host fluid is disclosed. Methods of operating the multistage acoustophoretic device are also disclosed. The system includes a plurality of acoustophoretic devices fluidly connected to each other in series, each acoustophoretic device including a flow chamber, an ultrasonic transducer capable of generating multidimensional standing acoustic waves, and a reflector. The system may also include pumps and flow meters.
