abstract |
The present invention relates to a method of preparing a metal oxide/metal composite comprising depositing a metal oxide on a metal surface from a dispersion in a liquid; or, in the presence of a metal, removing the metal oxide from a liquid in a liquid A dispersion is deposited on a substrate; or the metal oxide is deposited on a metal substrate from a metal salt solution. The metal oxide/metal complexes obtained by this method show synergistic antimicrobial activity due to the release of high concentrations of redox active species (ROS) at the metal oxide/metal heterojunction. The present invention also relates to the use of metal oxides/metal composites as antimicrobial coatings. |
