abstract |
The present invention proposes an article comprising a functionalized copolymer and its use, particularly in methods for binding biological materials, such as in methods for separating aggregated proteins from monomeric proteins in biological solutions use; wherein the article comprises: a) a porous substrate; and b) a copolymer covalently attached to the porous substrate, the copolymer comprising a hydrocarbon backbone and a polymer attached to the hydrocarbon backbone pendant groups, wherein: 1) each of the first plurality of pendant groups comprises: (a) at least one acidic group or a salt thereof; and (b) a spacer group through at least 6 chains a chain of mid-atoms directly attaching the at least one acidic group or salt thereof to the hydrocarbon backbone; and 2) each of the second plurality of pendant groups comprises: (a) at least one acidic group or salt thereof and (b) a spacer group that connects the at least one acidic group or salt thereof directly to the hydrocarbon backbone through a chain of at least 6 chain atoms; and wherein the first multiple and wherein the molar ratio of the first plurality of pendant groups to the second plurality of pendant groups is in the range of 95:5 to 5:95. |
