abstract | The present invention provides a series of compositions prepared by mixing the herbaceous plants bupleurum root ('B'), corydalis tuber ('Y'), tuber fleeceflower stem ('P') and albizia flower ('a'). The BYP, BYA, BPA, BY, BP, YP and BYPA extracts can obviously reduce one or more aging-accelerating effects of mice exposed to D-galactose, including spatial memory deficiency and increased levels of intracerebral oxidative stress markers malondialdehyde and proinflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-6, and show that the series of extracts have the effect of reducing aging damage, and can prevent and/or treat Alzheimer's disease and/or Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, the anxiolytic efficacy of BYA, BPA, YPA, BA and PA extracts indicates that they are useful as treatments for anxiety disorders; the sedative-hypnotic effects of BYA, YPA and PA extracts indicate that they are effective in treating sleep disorders. None of the extracts induced significant adverse side effects of exercise variation, decreased muscle coordination or anterograde amnesia in the maximum oral dose test. |
