titleOfInvention | Polyester composition comprising tetramethylcyclobutanediol and ethylene glycol using improved catalyst system |
abstract | Described as one aspect of the present invention is a polyester composition comprising at least one polyester comprising: (a) a dicarboxylic acid component comprising: (i) about 90 to about 100 mole percent para phthalic acid residues; (ii) about 0 to about 10 mole percent aromatic and/or aliphatic dicarboxylic acid residues having up to 20 carbon atoms; and (b) a diol component comprising: ( i) about 30 to about 42 mole % 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol residues; and (ii) about 58 to about 70 mole % ethylene glycol residues; wherein The total mole % of the dicarboxylic acid component is 100 mole %, and wherein the total mole % of the diol component is 100 mole %; wherein at a concentration of 0.25 g/50 ml at 60/40 at 25°C The polyester has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.50 to 0.70 dL/g as measured in (wt/wt) phenol/tetrachloroethane; and wherein the polyester has an L* color value of 90 or greater. The polyester can be formed into articles. |
