Determination of wound condition |
abstract |
A product for monitoring wound condition comprising: (a) a sample application zone; (b) a reaction zone downstream of the sample application zone, including a protease sensitive polymer; (c) colored particles; (d) the sample Observation zone downstream of the application zone and the reaction zone. The sample application zone transports fluid towards the viewing zone. Cleavage of the polymer by protease activity present in the applied wound fluid results in transport of the wound fluid along with the colored particles to the viewing area, thereby providing a visual indication of protease activity in the viewing area. One product for monitoring wound condition includes a matrix that absorbs wound fluid. The matrix includes a cross-linked and protease-sensitive polymer and colored particles forming a reaction zone on/in the matrix. The polymer and coloured particles are arranged such that cleavage of the polymer by protease activity present in the wound fluid results in transport of coloured particles along/through the matrix to provide a visual indication of protease activity in the wound fluid. Also provided are accompanying products, uses, kits and methods for monitoring wound conditions. |
