titleOfInvention Polymer overmolded bariatric forceps and method of installation
abstract The present application relates to polymer overmolded bariatric forceps and methods of installation. The bariatric forceps may include a base element overmolded in a polymer that forms first and second elongated portions, a curved portion with a flexible hinge, a fastening portion, and an engaging portion for maintaining the forceps in a closed position to separate the stomach. The installation method may include creating an opening in the abdominal cavity of the patient to access the stomach, removing tissue connecting the stomach adjacent region where the forceps are to be deployed, and deploying the forceps in an open position with the first ends of the first and second elongated portions open relative to each other , inserting the forceps into the abdominal cavity in the open position and passing the first and second elongated portions of the forceps individually through the opening of the abdominal cavity, placing the first and second elongated portions adjacent to the first and second sides of the stomach, and closing the forceps to separate the stomach.
