abstract |
The present invention describes a method for purifying hemicellulose extracts produced, for example, by hot water extraction. These extracts usually contain large amounts of colloidal substances mainly composed of lignin and other phenolic compounds. These colloidal particles clog equipment such as ultrafiltration membranes, which are considered almost unusable. Unwanted substances are very viscous at temperatures between 70 and 120°C, which makes it possible to adsorb them to various materials. Furthermore, the purification process is greatly enhanced by using adsorbent materials that are fully or partially contaminated with chemically similar materials. |
