abstract | The invention relates to the field of viscosity index improvers, and discloses a lubricating oil viscosity index improver and a preparation method thereof. The lubricating oil viscosity index improver contains an ethylene copolymer, wherein the weight average molecular weight of the ethylene copolymer is 50,000-150,000, and the molecular weight distribution is 1.5-3; the ethylene copolymer contains a structural unit derived from ethylene and a structural unit derived from an alpha-olefin, and the content of the structural unit derived from ethylene is 40 to 70% by weight based on the total amount of the ethylene copolymer. The method comprises contacting ethylene and alpha-olefin with a catalyst and a molecular weight regulator under olefin polymerization conditions in the presence of an organic solvent, wherein the catalyst contains a catalyst precursor with a structure shown in a formula (1) and alkyl aluminoxane. The viscosity index improver provided by the invention can show excellent thickening performance and high-temperature shear resistance, and has good low-temperature performance. |
