The present invention relates to a hot melt crushing extruder and method. Specifically, the present invention discloses a co-rotating twin screw extruder for forming chips. The extruder includes an inlet zone for receiving one or more excipients suitable for oral dosage or for receiving one or more excipients suitable for oral dosage along with one or more active drugs ingredients; a melting zone for softening at least one excipient to form a viscous material or melt; and a crushing zone for breaking and cooling the viscous material into cooled pieces; and an extruder outlet for extruding The machine recycles the cooled debris. |
