abstract |
Provides a process for treating fine and fine tailings including components of interest (CoC) and suspended solids. The process includes subjecting the thick and fine tailings to treatments including chemical immobilization of the CoC, polymer flocculation of the suspended solids, and dewatering. The chemical immobilization may include adding a compound such that insolubilization of the CoC is achieved. Subjecting the fine-grained tailings to chemical immobilization and polymer flocculation may facilitate the production of material ready for landfill, which may enable disposal of the material as part of a permanent aquatic storage structure (PASS). |
