Modular ventilatory support systems and methods are disclosed, wherein a user can convert the system between fixed configurations, extended range configurations, and stand-alone configurations. The modular components of the system include a compressor unit, a ventilator interfaceable with the compressor unit, and a patient interface connectable to either the compressor unit or the ventilator unit. By rearranging these modular components into different configurations, mobility and duration of use can be optimized to suit current needs. In a stationary configuration, mobility is maximally limited, but duration of use is maximized. In the extended range configuration, mobility is enhanced while the duration of use is limited by the battery power of the ventilator. In a stand-alone configuration, mobility is maximized while duration of use is limited by the ventilator's battery power and the amount of external gas supply. |
