titleOfInvention Sensors and devices for measuring muscle activity in detection and treatment of bruxism disorder
abstract An apparatus and method for detecting and alleviating bruxism are described. The method includes placing a piezoresistive (or piezoelectric) sensor on the skin over the temporalis muscle to detect grinding of the teeth based on the movement of the temporalis muscle. Alternatively piezoresistors can be used inside the ear. The piezoresistive sensor may be made of carbon impregnated polyolefin. Once bruxism is detected, the patient is notified and biofeedback is used to stop grinding of the teeth.
