abstract | The present invention provides a method for measuring surface displacement of an object with a displacement sensor that projects a line on the surface of the object in a manner that defines a plurality of displacement values in a height direction and receives light from the projected line at an imager. The vision system processor processes the rows of pixels of the imager to determine the laser line centers of the columns of imager pixels in each of the plurality of target areas. Each target region defines a plurality of rows corresponding to the expected locations of the projected lines on the object surface. A GUI may be used to establish the region. In a further embodiment, the system uses an imager to produce a grayscale image. These grayscale images are compared to the generated height image to compensate for contrast-induced false height readings. The image pixels and reference voltages are compared to locate the lines. |
