A method for the selection of agents affecting intestinal motility disorders and pain |
abstract |
The present invention provides a method of evaluating different agents for the treatment of intestinal motility disorders utilizing different methodological portions associated with the musculature and nervous system of the gastrointestinal tract, which communicates with the brain. In particular, the present invention provides a method for selecting an agent effective for the treatment of intestinal motility disorders, wherein the method comprises: a) performing a spatiotemporal (ST) mapping step on a gastrointestinal segment, analyzing the effect of the agent on gastric Effects of intestinal peristalsis; and b) an in vitro nerve tract recording procedure performed on the gastrointestinal segment to analyze the effect of the agents on the firing of mesenteric afferents. The present invention also provides the bacterial strain selected by the method of the present invention and the use of the bacterial strain in the treatment of intestinal motility disorder. |
