titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of 1-methylpyrrolidin-3-ol
abstract The present invention provides a process for the preparation of 1-methylpyrrolidin-3-ol on an industrial scale. A process for preparing a compound of formula (I), comprising: step A: reacting a compound represented by formula (II) with formaldehyde and hydrogen in the presence of a metal catalyst in a solvent, wherein the amount of formaldehyde used is more than 1 mole and not more than 5 moles with respect to 1 mole of the compound represented by formula (II), thereby obtaining a mixture comprising formaldehyde and the compound represented by formula (I); and, step B: mixing a mixture comprising formaldehyde and the compound represented by formula (I) with hydrogen and a secondary amine selected from the group consisting of diethylamine, dipropylamine, diisopropylamine, butylethylamine, pyrrolidine, piperidine and morpholine in the presence of a metal catalyst in a solvent, and then removing the metal catalyst, followed by distillation to obtain the compound represented by formula (I).
