Various embodiments of the present invention relate to catheter lock solutions and catheter lock methods using trisodium citrate and ethanol, particularly 4.0-15.0 wt/vol% trisodium citrate as an anticoagulant and/or antibacterial ingredients, and 15.0‑25.0 v/v % ethanol as an antimicrobial ingredient. The use of catheter lock solutions and catheter locks can reduce treatment failure during medical procedures using catheters to deliver therapy by at least significantly reducing the risks associated with bloodstream infection, catheter system dysfunction, emboli formation, patient discomfort, and patient disease . These benefits can be attributed in part to the synergistic antimicrobial effect of trisodium citrate and ethanol in solution, resulting in an effective catheter lock solution with minimal ethanol concentration. |
