The present disclosure generally relates to open-chain modified cellulose pulp and methods for making and using the same. More specifically, the open-chain modified cellulose pulp described herein can be prepared by oxidation of the cellulose pulp and subsequent reduction of the oxidized groups, resulting in a modified pulp with an improved open-chain configuration, This modified pulp can be more efficiently converted to cellulose derived products. The present disclosure also relates to improved cellulose-derived products, such as cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, and regenerated cellulose products, made from the cellulose pulp. |
