abstract The present invention provides methods for oxygen-controlled generation of microparticles and hydrogels with controlled particle size and size distribution using microfluidics, and products from the provided methods. The included method generates microparticles by polymerizing an aqueous solution dispersed in a non-aqueous continuous phase in an oxygen-controlled environment. This process allows control of the size of the water droplet size and thus the size of the resulting microparticles that can be used for biological applications.
