The present invention discloses a method for exchanging or converting terminal groups in polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene (PVDF-TrFE) copolymers and thereby improving the ferroelectric properties of the PVDF-TrFE copolymers. Bulk or chemically dissimilar end groups, such as iodine or hydroxyl end groups, can be converted to hydrogen, fluorine, or chlorine atoms. The present invention also discloses PVDF-TrFE copolymers comprising terminal groups or substituents selected from hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine. The copolymers are useful as ferroelectric, electromechanical, piezoelectric or dielectric materials in electronic devices. |
