The invention uses halogenated alkane as solvent and bromine as brominating agent, realizes mono-substitution bromination of m-methyl anisole under homogeneous phase condition, the conversion rate is more than 99%, the product purity is more than 98.5%, and the impurity content of polybrominated by-products and the like is less than 1%.
