The present invention relates to a process for the continuous preparation of polyolefins from one or more α -olefin monomers in a reactor, at least one of the α -olefin monomers being ethylene or propylene, wherein the reactor comprises a fluidized bed, an expansion section located at or near the top of the reactor, a distributor plate located in the lower portion of the reactor, and an inlet for a recycle stream located below the distributor plate, wherein the process comprises-feeding a polymerization catalyst into the fluidized bed in a region above the distributor plate-feeding the one or more α -olefin monomers into the reactor-withdrawing the polyolefin from the reactor-circulating a fluid from the top of the reactor to the bottom of the reactor, wherein the circulating fluid is compressed using a compressor and subsequently cooled using a heat exchanger to form a cooled recycle stream comprising a liquid, and wherein the cooled recycle stream is introduced into the reactor using the inlet for the recycle stream, wherein a portion of the cooled recycle stream is withdrawn to form a liquid-containing stream, wherein at least a portion of the polymerization process is introduced into the expansion section, and wherein at least a portion of the liquid-containing stream is contacted with the inner surface of the expansion section. |
