abstract |
An article is molded from a first thermoset elastomer composition and a second thermoset elastomer composition, each comprising a free radical curable elastomer and a free radical initiator but different from each other (e.g., different colors or different elastomers). Molding a first thermosetting elastomer composition in the mold cavity to fill a first region of the mold cavity at a first temperature at which a half-life of the first free radical initiator is greater than or equal to about 10 minutes or a torque increase of the first thermosetting elastomer composition is less than 10% of a total torque increase upon full cure. The second thermosetting elastomer composition is then inserted into the mold cavity and the mold is heated to cure the first elastomer composition and the second elastomer composition at a second temperature (e.g., a temperature at which the half-life of each free radical initiator is ≦ about 1 minute), thereby curing the article, wherein the second composition fills a second region of the mold cavity prior to or during heating and curing. |
