abstract The present invention provides a light emitting diode with a light blocking layer. A light emitting diode according to an embodiment includes: a substrate; a semiconductor layer disposed at a lower portion of the substrate and comprising a first conductivity type semiconductor layer, a second conductivity type semiconductor layer, and a semiconductor layer interposed between the first conductivity type semiconductor layer and the first conductivity type semiconductor layer. An active layer between the second conductive type semiconductor layers; and a light blocking layer covering the side surfaces and the upper surface of the substrate in order to define a light-emitting surface on the upper surface of the substrate. Using the light blocking layer can easily adjust the size of the light emitting surface of the light emitting diode.
