titleOfInvention Expansion delivery system for medical devices
abstract A kit for connecting a hollow cannula (40) to a hollow organ of a patient's body can include a sheath (70) having a tapered surface defined at a distal end thereof by a plurality of fins. The delivery tube (50) is slidably positioned within the sheath such that the sheath and delivery tube form a sealed enclosure that completely contains the cannula. The housing and cannula can be completely purged of air. An elongated dilator (10) can protrude through a seal assembly slidably engageable with the sheath and delivery tube. After advancing the fluid-filled housing into the organ, the distal end of the sheath is opened by advancing the delivery tube, and the cannula is advanced until the anchor (48) at the distal end of the cannula leaves the delivery tube in the organ and opens to anchor the cannula in place. An external fixation device (130) may be applied over the cannula to hold the wall of the organ between the expanded anchor on the inside of the wall and the external fixation device on the outside of the wall.
