The present application relates to the local delivery of trace elements to the site of tissue damage, which triggers the body's innate tissue repair mechanisms. Local delivery of copper to the injury site induces migration (i.e., homing) of stem cells to the injury site, triggers stem cell differentiation at the injury site, induces tissue regeneration at the injury site, induces signaling molecules that trigger tissue regeneration, reverses damage at the injury site, and /or reestablish the microenvironment of neurofibrillary cells and neurosecretory cells at the site of injury. In another aspect, the delivery of trace elements (eg, copper) directly to a site of injury and related methods are disclosed. |
