titleOfInvention | Method and device for detecting gluten sensitivity and distinguishing it from celiac disease |
abstract | Antibodies are used as biomarkers to aid in distinguishing gluten immunoreactivity and sensitivity, asymptomatic celiac disease, Crohn's disease and other gut-related pathologies from typical celiac disease. In one class of embodiments, serum, saliva, or other samples from humans or other animals are tested for antibodies to: (a) wheat antigen; (b) gliadin antigen; and (c) wheat germ agglutinin, One or more of glutamorphine, glutenin, deamidated glutenin, prodynorphin, and dynorphin. The test results are considered to be particularly interesting, wherein the wheat antigen and the gliadin antigen are both selected from the group consisting of α-gliadin 33-mer, α-gliadin 17-mer, γ-gliadin 15-mer, ω-gliadin - gliadin 17-mer and glutenin 21-mer. Test panels and kits can advantageously test for alpha-gliadin, gamma-gliadin, omega-gliadin, glutenin, wheat germ agglutinin, glutamorphine, prodynorphin, transglutamine At least three, five, seven or all antigens of enzyme-2, transglutaminase-3, transglutaminase-6, and gliadin-binding transglutaminase. |
