| abstract |
The present invention provides a biological indicator with variable resistance that can be controlled by moving the cover or housing of the biological indicator such that the size of the vent that allows sterilant to flow through the housing is effectively sized decrease or increase. The indicator window may display the current resistance of the biological indicator to the user and may also display a readable indicator that can be captured by the scanner to allow the sterilizer to identify the current resistance. When the level of resistance shown by the readable indicator is not compatible with the disinfection cycle selected by the user, the process may be delayed and a notification of the problem provided to the user. The readable indicator may be a passive tag with a memory that allows information to be read and written so that the biological indicator can transmit data from one device to another. |
